Accepting payments in Ukraine: providers, fees and fiscal receipts

Accepting payments in Ukraine: providers, fees and fiscal receipts
In short

  • Online acquiring in Ukraine costs roughly 1.3–2.5% depending on the provider, turnover and category.
  • The technical integration is a day or two. The paperwork at the provider takes far longer.
  • Card payments bring fiscal receipts with them: the software cash register has to be planned in from the start.
  • For most stores the sensible setup is one main provider and one fallback.

“Can we just bolt on payments” comes up in every second brief. You can. But behind the word “just” sit three separate jobs: the technical integration, the contract with the provider, and fiscalisation. The first is the easy one.

Who is on the market

The main providers are LiqPay from PrivatBank, monobank’s website payments, WayForPay, Fondy, Portmone and RozetkaPay. The differences are smaller than they look: all take Visa and Mastercard, all support Apple Pay and Google Pay, and all ship modules for the popular platforms.

What to compare What to look at
Fee Roughly 1.3% to 2.5%, often tied to turnover and category
Settlement time From next day to several business days
Foreign cards Usually carry a higher fee
Ready-made module For WooCommerce, OpenCart, Horoshop — saves days of development
Fiscal integration Some providers connect to fiscal services, some do not

The fee is not always the deciding factor. Half a percent on a hundred thousand hryvnia of turnover is five hundred hryvnia a month. One day of payments being down costs more.

Fiscalisation. Taking card payment for goods or services in Ukraine means the buyer has to receive a fiscal receipt. For a store that is a software cash register — a separate service integrated with the site. It belongs in the design phase, not in the week before launch.

How long connecting takes

  • Registration and paperwork — a few days to two weeks.
  • Technical integration — one to two days with a ready module, three to five for a custom site.
  • Testing — a day of its own: payments, cancellations, refunds, and what happens when the bank declines.
  • The fiscal side — a day to a week, depending on how well the service talks to your platform.

Mistakes that cost orders

Prepayment only. A large share of Ukrainian buyers still pay on delivery: cash on delivery through Nova Poshta has not gone anywhere.

Payment only after registration. Forcing an account before checkout is the classic way to lose a third of your baskets.

No confirmation after payment. Someone pays and sees a blank page. You need a thank-you page, an email with the order details and a notification to the manager.

Failed payments not handled. The bank declines, the site says nothing, and the order hangs in an unknown state. The most common bug in bespoke integrations.

For most small stores the healthy setup is one main provider and one fallback for outages. Two is enough — more buttons on the payment page do not raise conversion.

We will connect payments, fiscal receipts and your CRM so that orders stop getting lost between the bank and the sales team.
